Just a small statistic…

lavabubble:

Chris Brown has 8.2m Twitter followers.

Let’s guestimate that 6m of them are female.

In a country as small as the UK the Womens Aid domestic violence charity provide the following information:

One in four women: An analysis of 10 separate domestic violence prevalence studies found consistent findings: 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence over their lifetimes and between 6-10% of women suffer domestic violence in a given year (Council of Europe, 2002).”

Upscale that and there’s the potential that one in four of those 6m women (and a percentage of the male followers also) will be beaten by a partner. That’s a hell of a lot of broken bones, black eyes, fractured skulls and some of those injuries will ultimately cause death or be a straight out murder.

It’s never right to lay hands on anyone be they male or female and no matter what your domestic setup is whether gay, straight, bi, poly, whatever.

CM Punk is straight talking and some people, Chris Brown himself included, just don’t want to hear the truth because it’s unpalatable. What’s also unpalatable to me is a woman in a position of influence such as Rihanna being beaten viciously and then somehow indicating to a generation of impressionable young women that it’s okay to forgive and forget that beating far too easily.

I pity the Chris Brown fans that think what he did was acceptable. Just do me a favour. Think that decision through a little more when you catch your father slapping the hell out of your mother or when your sister comes to visit and she’s cowering every time her husband moves towards her or your best friend comes to you in pieces with nowhere left to go and feeling like there’s nothing left to live for because they’re too scared of what’s waiting for them when they get home.

When the people that you love come around beaten and broken just slap on some Chris Brown tracks and it’ll all be okay, right?

This. All of this.
